Happy Hunting
Well, I took the day off so that I could take my niece prom dress shopping. Not real sure on my qualifications here. I wasn't a prom type when I was prom age. But my main claim to fame on this front is that I have a car, vacation time, and no objections to being surrounded by miles of taffeta. So, we've got her fancy heels in the car, and 2 major dress stores scoped out. Tally ho and view halloo.

Just steer her away from the slutty dresses and she'll be fine!
She actually had a remarkably classic taste in formal wear for her age. She picked a dark teal goddess gown with a gold beaded halter neck, found at GroupUSA. And with a pair of gold rhinestone shoes, we were still WAY under budget. Gotta love it.
I bought a prom dress junior year for 20 bucks at a consignment shop in the hopes I would actually go to prom. It was a lovely peach thing with big poufy sleeves (remember, 1986). Sadly, never wore it. Oh well.
I keep hoping one of the local charities will do an 'adult prom'. Especially an 80s thing. Prom would have been total torture when I was 18, but I think now I'd have a blast.
Was that dress Gunne Sax? Cause I think I rember selling it at Woodie's.
I think someone made the dress, but I used to loove Gunne Sax.
Adult prom would be awesome, and now I'm glad I didn't go to prom since it would've been torture. It was hard in college, though, with everyone walking around with their Prom "Stairway to Heaven"-themed key chains and talking about it. I was jealous at the time.
You oughta go to a formal shop. There are all of these incredibly awesome 80s style short formals, with stuff like bustiers and black and gray plaid, or neon pink satin, with tulle petticoats. Awesome! I was totally dying, "I'd wear that, or I'd wear that. . ." With black fishnets and grany boots.
Ang - thee is a big annual "80s prom" party here in DC - I usually ignore the invites, but next I get, I'll fwd to you. I assume half the guest are young college kids who worship that era and the other half are 30-40 year olds reliving their youths.
