Have you lost your freaking mind?!?!?!?!?

Dermot Mulroney as Jim Rockford? What was Kyle MacLachlan busy?

I have to say I most firmly OBJECT. Dermot Mulroney my goddamn ass. He can't touch the hem of James Garner's double-knit polyester, western fit slacks. Could he be Maverick? No. Could he be your Local Sheriff? No. Even Mel Gibson, prior to losing his pea brain, couldn't fill those boots.

James Garner is manly. James Garner sweats Old Spice. James Garner could use is fists. But he's clever enough never to have to. Chuck Norris looks up to James Garner.

Dermot Mulroney is . . . puh.

What's next? Bradley Cooper playing Stroker Ace? Rob Pattinson as Dirty Harry?

This. Must. Be. Stopped.

James Garner was a natural Rockford. What's the next remake? Magnum possibly? I don't even want to imagine who they would have in mind for that!

It doesn't even bear thinking. Who indeed could wear the Hawaiian shirt with such honor? Honestly, where have all the cowboys gone?

Brad Pitt! George Clooney! Okay, I'm kidding. Those guys are pretty boys, NOT cowboys. I agree with you guys and why do they need to remake Rockford anyway?

I just shudder to even think of Brad Pitt playing Jim Rockford (though, weirdly, they were both born in Oklahoma university towns - strange but true). There is no one now who is anything like the kind of wry, zen-cool, nothing-to-prove masculinity that James Garner epitomizes. Possibly Jeffrey Donovan on Burn Notice as a 21st Century version, but he's the only one who comes even close. I just see nothing but descration in this endeavour. Leave Rockford be.

i'll give dermoot a chance - but really why remake this at all - it will not have that bleached out, grainy 70s look i love so much and was half the reason i watched

And so much awesome 70s stuff! The clothes, the cars, the wide ties, the hair (loved James Garners super-fluffy hair). And the swinging bachelor pads, dive bars and super crappy office furniture. Man! Is Rockford on DVD? I need to get me some of that action. Maybe Barney Miller too.
