The King of the Tri Lams

The President Elect has read Harry Potter? He's a Mac guy? He collected Spiderman and Conan comics? Geeks rejoice! He's one of us! He's one of us! He's one of us! He's one of us! I've never felt so personally close to a Commander in Chief in my entire life.

Oh, my gods. We may have a President who . . . . knows better than to violate the Prime Directive.

Gasp.

I am so not joking about this. I trust my fellow geeks in a way that I don't, you know, them. Geeks get it. We love the elegant solution, the killer app, the gadget. We put our hope in science. But with caution (a genetically engineered virus that will turn belly button lint into clean burning fuel - mmmm, might want to be careful with that). We believe that evil should be defeated. But that what is different is not necessarily evil. We believe in heroism and valor. We believe in peace. We want to live in the future. And we want to start building it now.

And if Barack Obama is one of us? Smile, people. Smile.

Yo, he's also only just a few years older than us. (Isn't that something in itself?!) I think that's why he can relate to comics and Harry Potter. Finally, we don't have to hear about how the 60s were the BEST thing ever. Now it's time for the children of the 70s to be IN CHARGE.

Ah, hell, yeah. He's officially Gen X. Hallelujah.

Plus, his family isn't rich. If you really look at it, being black is just one way of many that this President is unprecedented.

Hmm well we had a geek mayor of DC, Anthony Williams, he is a nice guy and was solutions-driven - but he did not get much done - couldn't handle the bureaucracy. Building realtionships was NOT his strong suit.
Along comes Fenty - cool, hip, urban and younger - he ises technology but also uses an iron fist when needed.
Lesson: geeks are good but not as leaders. Hoping Obama can shed some geekness and build us a future.

I'm kind of hoping for a little geek-boy with a dash of Chicago street fighter thrown in. A guy who can make a command decision. Might be a bit much to ask. But hope is making me a little giddy.
